Parkland Hospital: Voices from HistoryAll Exhibits
Parkland Memorial Hospital has expanded and changed significantly since 1963. A large complex of buildings now surrounds the area where the emergency room was located. The modern emergency trauma rooms are located in a different part of the hospital and, other than more advanced medical equipment, look remarkably similar to the rooms where President Kennedy and Governor Connally were treated.
The original emergency room, refurbished in the late 1970s, now makes up Parkland's radiology department. Before this refurbishment, Trauma Room One was dismantled. The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) purchased the contents of the room. Today, a plaque at Parkland marks the original site of Trauma Room One.
Parkland Memorial Hospital remains the primary teaching hospital of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and is often rated among the 25 best hospitals in the United States. Its trauma center is recognized internationally.
