Image 4 from Negative Strip 32: Downtown of a man walking past a store window

Original 35mm black and white negative taken by Dallas Times Herald staff photographer William Beal. This image shows an unidentified man walking in downtown Dallas on Commerce Street on the evening of November 22, 1963. The man is carrying a newspaper announcing the death of President Kennedy. The negative is on Kodak Tri-X Pan Film. This image is labeled #4 on section 1 of negative strip 32.The old TMS record for the images on this negative strip indicate that the photographer was William Beal. Based on research conducted by collections intern Mark Davies in June and July 2012, curatorial and collections staff concluded that Beal did indeed take these pictures. He was accompanied by journalist Vivien Caslteberry, whose oral history confirms him as the photographer.
