A sixth grader in Austin, Texas, Jane Dryden Louis was planning to attend the presidential banquet on the evening of Noviembre 22, 1963, when the assassination took place. She wrote Jackie Kennedy over two dozen letters over the next six months, one of which was included in Dr. Ellen Fitzpatrick's book, Letters to Jackie: Condolences from a Grieving Nation (2010).
