Journalist and Historian Darwin Payne in conversation with Curator Stephen Fagin

Darwin Payne is an author and professor emeritus of communications at Southern Methodist University. His newest book, Behind the Scenes: Covering the JFK Assassination, was released in October 2023. Other works also include Big D: Triumphs and Troubles of an American Supercity in the 20th Century, and biographies of Sarah T. Hughes, the federal judge who gave the oath of office to Lyndon Johnson and was an early crusader for women’s rights, and of Owen Wister, the novelist who created the lasting image of the cowboy as western hero.
