Original 35mm black and white negative taken by a Dallas Times Herald staff photographer. This image shows President Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy along with Governor John Connally greeting local dignitaries in front of Air Force One at Love Field on the morning of November 22, 1963. The tall man at far left is U.S. Attorney Barefoot Sanders. The man at right about to step onto the tarmac is President Kennedy's former campaign manager, Lawrence "Larry" O'Brien.The images on this negative strip were taken by a Dallas Times Herald staff photographer. There were three photographers at Love Field that day: John Mazziotta, Bob Jackson and Eamon Kennedy. It is not known which of the three took these pictures.

Curatorial Note:

The man at right about to step onto the tarmac is future National Basketball Association commissioner Lawrence "Larry" O'Brien, who had directed Senator Kennedy's election campaign in 1960. The tall man at far left is U.S. Attorney Barefoot Sanders, who was appointed to the northern Texas district position by President Kennedy in 1961. After the assassination, Sanders was the person who contacted Federal Judge Sarah Hughes to come to Love Field to swear in President Lyndon Johnson. - Gary Mack, Curator
