Curatorial Note:

The Kennedy family's personal photographer, Jacques Lowe, arranged this famous group photo on the day after the election. In his oral history with The Sixth Floor Museum, Lowe recalled, "Nobody wanted to be photographed. They said 'tomorrow,' and of course, I knew there was never going to be another tomorrow. So I pleaded with Joe Kennedy to set this up--and he did. He ordered everybody to be in the library at a certain time, and they were all waiting around for Jackie... And finally, Jackie arrived about twenty minutes later, and they all got up and applauded, which was kind of a wonderful moment which signified that she was the First Lady." - Stephen Fagin, Curator
