The image was taken by amateur photographers Rudy and Vera Clauss on Sunday, November 24, 1963, two days after the assassination of President Kennedy. A single pink flower arrangement that reads "JFK" is visible resting on a block and includes an attached note.

This distinctive "JFK" floral arrangement was one of the more creative floral tributes left in Dealey Plaza during the weekend of the assassination. Another arrangement spelled out the letter "K" for Kennedy in white flowers. Another oft-photographed arrangement was an ornate display left by Tom Russell of Dallas that included a large red cross and a small "eternal flame." This small "JFK" arrangement was located directly behind the Russell display, very close to the pedestal where Abraham Zapruder had filmed the assassination. -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
