Sixties Science – The Space Race

December 12, 2020 | 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

| Free

In 1961 President Kennedy set a challenge to put a man on the moon by the end of the 1960s. In this session of 60s Science, participants will learn about the race between the United States and the Soviet Union to be the first to put a man on the moon. They will discover the challenges of putting an object in orbit by conducting tests of Newton’s Experiment before building and launching their own rockets.

The Sixties Science program is a monthly series connecting history and STEAM from the 1960s to today for students ages 8-13. This program will highlight new topics each month through virtual programs debuting on YouTube the second Saturday of every month at 10 a.m. Visit our Education page for resources for this program and upcoming dates and topics.
