Church Committee Report

The final report of the Select Committee to Study Governmental Operations with Respect to Intelligence Activities is published. Although the committee, chaired by Senator Frank Church, found no evidence of CIA involvement in the Kennedy assassination, it determined that the CIA had enlisted organized crime in a plot to assassinate Fidel Castro in the early 1960s. The committee also concluded that the FBI, CIA and Secret Service had withheld information from the Warren Commission, which fueled public demand for a new investigation.
