Half-Dollar Silver Coin

Authorized by Congress a month after the assassination, the John F. Kennedy fifty-cent coin is issued by the U.S. Mint and quickly became an international collectible. Although the U.S. Treasury initially intended to issue 91 million coins in 1964, public demand ultimately caused approximately 430 million half dollars to be issued (well into 1965) with the inaugural 1964 date.
