John F. Kennedy Space Center

NASA Launch Operations Center, located on Merritt Island in Florida, is designated the John F. Kennedy Space Center. The late president had visited the site twice in 1962 and again in November 1963, one week prior to the assassination. In Executive Order 11129, designating the NASA center in memory of the late president, President Johnson acknowledged that “President Kennedy lighted the imagination of our people when he set the moon as our target and man as the means to reach it.”
